Discover the project

Context

Sense has been commissioned to provide consulting and coaching services to rice mills in West Africa, and to develop and train capacity-building courses. The main objective of this mission is to improve the overall performance of the company and strengthen the capacities of rice mill management and staff. AGRODEV has been appointed by SENSE to act as its focal point in Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire.

In short, there are two main works that are linked but also distinct from each other:
1. Business Development Services (BDS), which provides consulting, coaching and mentoring services to 10 factories in Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire. These services can be broken down as follows:
1.1 Round tables
1.2 Individual coaching, in person or online
2. The Milling Business School (MBS), which will offer 5 courses:
2.1. Buehler Milling Operations - as run by Buehler (GIZ will manage this course)
2.2 Practical marketing for rice mills
2.3. The rice mill business
2.4. Finance essentials for rice mills
2.5. Developing profitable services for farmers
MBS uses trainers who attend a "train the trainer" course to become certified trainers.

Methodology / Approach

The project approach is as follows:

Round tables:

Troubleshooting roundtables enable plants to connect with coaches and other plants in a day of face-to-face sessions. These roundtables will be physical meetings facilitated by Sense and its focal point AGRODEV. The consultant will give a short presentation on the topic, offer advice and encourage participants to discuss issues and find solutions together.

MILLER EXCHANGE:

- Enable exchange between coaching cohort - common problems, approaches, solutions tried, etc. - Essential for networking, building a support network, peer mentoring of relationships - Showcase local solutions that work

INDIVIDUAL COACHING :

- Individual coaching enables factories to obtain immediate practical information solutions to problems. - The coach will visit each factory and create a personal development plan - Action plans with deadlines will be drawn up, which will be monitored and evaluated throughout the year - Factories will have a coaching session every 6 weeks, either with a physical visit by the international or local consultant, an online coaching session or calls on demand.

RAPID ASSISTANCE ON REQUEST :

- Conveys practical knowledge in a tangible way: e.g. discussing the importance of opening a bank account, and how to do it.

MILLER BUSINESS SCHOOL (MBS)

The first course will be presented by Bühler, called "Mastering milling operations" - Sense will run 4 training courses ranging from 2 to 4 days each - The training modules are: o Practical marketing for rice mills o The rice mill business o Finance Essentials for rice mills o Developing profitable agricultural services
