Context

Burkina Faso, like other countries in the sub-region, is facing gradual degradation of its land resources. This land degradation, accentuated by the effects of climate change, is reducing the supply of ecosystem services. This situation exposes rural populations, who are the most vulnerable to water, food and energy insecurity, to the risk of conflicts over natural resources and land. Appropriate soil management and sustainable agricultural practices are needed to create the right conditions for crop development and production. It is in this context that the ProSol project is committed to building farmers' capacity to implement agroecological measures and improve soil fertility. This capacity-building involves supporting farmers in applying the good farming practices recommended by the ProSol Project and the operator AGRODEV Services.

Methodology / Approach

The different approaches developed :

  • Participatory approach
  • The approach also emphasizes "cascade training".
  • A monitoring-evaluation component and capitalization of acquired knowledge

The approach will be implemented in the following stages:

  • The preparatory phase of the mission ;
  • Execution of activities according to specific objectives

A preparatory stage that can be summed up in the following activities:

  • Logistical preparation of training sessions;
  • Pedagogical preparation of training sessions ;
  • Operational business planning
  • Setting up the monitoring system

Achievements / Results

This project supported 2944 people during the 2020 and 2021 agricultural seasons, including 250 men and 2694 women who benefited not only from improved seeds for soybean, cowpea and groundnut production, technical supervision, but also agricultural kits. The beneficiaries are located in the communes of Léna and Satiri in the Houet province, and Koumbia, Béréba and Houndé in the Tuy province.

This production was carried out under variable climatic conditions, which meant that the women were unable to build up healthy seed reserves for future campaigns. All this thanks to the technical support provided by AgroDev Services, who made a point of :

  • Identify learning groups,
  • Distribute seeds and agricultural equipment,
  • Provide training in legume and compost production,
  • Setting up demonstration fields, follow-up and guided tours,
  • Production of activity reports
